Okay, so this one's a little odd, since I'm actually going against the title from the very beginning. Here's the thing. I love music, and old stuff becomes new for me sometimes, and a month and a half ago, my baby girl was in the hospital for four days with a high fever (all fine, now, thanks), and an old George Strait hit became a once-again favorite when it randomly came into my head and I listened to it on Youtube about...ten times...or so.
#7. Let's Fall to Pieces Together - George Strait
"George Strait flipbook"
The next one has been my favorite song as long as I can remember, so it'll always and forever be up there nice and high.
#6. Killin Time - Clint Black
The next one isn't country. What? Yeah, I know. And I'm shocked and appalled at my daring insertion of a non-country when I'm so anti-non-country. But I'm not. I like non-country. I'm starting to sound like the Texan my husband always says that I am...He laughs about how the rest of the country is..."Not-Texas" to me. He's right. It's Not-Texas, though I'm getting to know Maryland and I surely have distinguished New York City as its own place with its own name instead of just not. Confused yet? I am... Here we go.
#5. I'm Yours - Jason Mraz
This one came out about a year ago. When it did, I immediately told my husband that it's better than Kenny Chesney's "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy." Why? Because it is. Come on, he tells the dogs to all get in the house and offers to let her drive his tractor. Yes, thank you. By the way, as Jason Aldean is currently my favorite singer, you can expect to see him again on this list.
#4. Big Green Tractor - Jason Aldean
Number 3 is a more recent one, and the first time I heard it, I loved it. It sounds country. That's nice. The video is spectacular and not all porno-ish. Love it love it love it. Thanks again for a sweet and clean song, Rodney.
#3. Farmer's Daughter - Rodney Atkins
Ya know, I taught at an all girls' school for three years. Cliques are still as popular and ridiculous as they were when I was in school, though less competitive with an absence of boys to fight over. I've never been a really big fan of the queen bee with groupies following her about. However, when Miranda Lambert sings about it, with a sweeeeeet country twang and old-timey country sound, that's some great groupiness, and I'd love to join hers.
#2. Only Prettier - Miranda Lambert
And finally, as I warned you, another Jason Aldean song. I really think that this guy could be as good as Johnny Cash. Sometimes. With a song like "The Truth," how could anyone doubt it? Not all of his songs hit the heart like this one does, but the strength of lyrics, voice, and music in this one make instant classic, real country. Thanks, Jas.
