Wynonna - "Love Heals"

Wynonna has joined with Cracker Barrel in her album "Love Heals: A Tribute to Our Wounded Warriors," available for the first time only through Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. The album is in support of the Wounded Warrior Project. "Whether through caregiver retreats, combat stress programs, career and education services, or adaptive sporting opportunities, Wounded Warrior Project's vision is to help make this generation of wounded warriors the most successful and well-adjusted in our nation's history. To find out how you can help, and to donate, visit woundedwarriorproject.org."

Love Heals holds Wynonna's most precious songs appropriate to the topic. "She is His Only Need" opens the album, the familiar version from 1992. The beloved strength of her voice and heart-reaching melodies are a perfect opening to an album set to remind you of those who give their all every day. The fifth track on the album, "Only Love," is well placed between "Tell Me Why" and "Rock Bottom." These three tracks from the late 80s and early 90s give hints to the helplessness of a wounded soldier - of a man or woman who has put his life in jeopardy to preserve freedom. What else can be the answer to why, to the pain of rock bottom... Only love will lead us to the other shore. Out of all the flags I've flown, one flies high and stands along, only love.

The rest of the album, with the exception of track 9: "Is it Over Yet," are songs of hope and faith, the most stirring being the ever popular hit from 1997 "Come Some Rainy Day." The ending of piano and cymbal strike the listener with a reminder of sadness, leading into "Is it Over Yet" very well. The last three are victorious conquerings of the pain. They see to the future and its happy state of possibilities.

Overall, this is an excellent collection of Wynonna's songs. It should be listened to as it is set up, as an album, from beginning to end, to feel the intended effects. If you love Wynonna, her most perfect songs are on this album; if you could care less about Wynonna, the album is worth the $11.99 plus shipping you will pay on the CrackerBarrel.com website.
